What we collect
- Account: mobile number, name, gender, date of birth, profile photo, interests and bio you add.
- Activity: who you follow, your call history (people you talked to for longer than a short minimum), chat messages you send.
- Safety: people you block, reports you send or that are made about your account (with a copy of the last messages between the two people, so our team can review them even if they are deleted later), and any suspensions. The person you report or block is never told who did it.
- Payments: plan, status, renewal dates and the Google Play order and purchase IDs. Card, UPI and bank details are handled by Google Play, not by us.
- Notifications: your phone's push notification token and the notification settings you choose.
- Technical: device and connection data needed to run video calls and keep the Service secure (for example, IP address for rate limiting).
Video calls
Calls are peer-to-peer where possible and are not recorded or stored by us.
How we use it
To run the Service (matching, calls, chat, history, notifications), verify your phone number, process subscriptions, prevent fraud and abuse, and provide support.
Sharing
We share data only with providers that run the Service for us, for example phone number verification by SMS (Google Firebase Authentication), payments (Google Play), push notifications (Google Firebase Cloud Messaging) and hosting, or when the law requires it. We do not sell your data.
Advertising
The free version of the app and this website show ads from Google (AdMob in the app, AdSense on the website). Google and its partners may use cookies or your device's advertising ID to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites and apps. You can turn off personalised ads in Google Ads Settings or in your phone's privacy settings, and learn more at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown on this website and can change their choice at any time with the privacy and cookie settings link on the page. Apart from these ads, this website does not use analytics or tracking cookies. Subscribers on a paid plan do not see ads in the app.
Retention and your choices
We keep data while your account is active. You can edit your profile in the app, turn notifications off in Settings, and delete your account at any time in the app (Profile > Settings > Delete account) or as described on our Delete your account page. Deleting removes your profile, photos, follows, blocks, call history, chats, subscription details and the reports you sent. We keep payment records as required by law, and reports about an account and its suspensions as safety records.
Where your data is stored
Our servers and database are in India (Mumbai). Backup copies kept by our hosting provider may be stored outside India (currently in Malaysia). Some providers that run the Service for us, such as Google Firebase and Google Play, may process data on their own servers outside India, under their privacy terms.
Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can ask us for a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how we use it, ask us to correct, complete or update it, ask us to delete it, withdraw your consent (by deleting your account; we then stop processing your data, except what the law requires us to keep), nominate someone to exercise these rights if you die or cannot, and complain to our Grievance Officer. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India. Write to us from the contact details below; we may ask you to confirm the mobile number of your account.
Adults only
Smilaroo is only for people aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18 and remove accounts we believe belong to a minor.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections and access is restricted. No system is perfectly secure; tell us if you find a problem. If a breach affects your personal data, we will inform you and the authorities as the law requires.
